STEP 2 : READY TO CREATE SCANS BY 123D CATCH and Meshmixer

Getting Started with Photogrammetry and 123D Catch

We’ll get started by using a free application for creating photogrammetric models, 123D Catch, offered by Autodesk. Available for both desktop and mobile operating systems, it doesn’t offer the full feature set of some more advanced packages, however it is easy to use, and uses the power of cloud computing to quickly produce models, even if using the application from an iOS device.

Important rules that should understand first before taking the photo of your object.

The first thing required for the exercise is to take a series of pictures of an object from multiple perspectives.

If you want to replicate a 3D surface, or the façade of a building, you take a series of photographs perpendicular to the surface in a straight line. To produce a 3D object that is viewable from all sides, you take a series of photographs in a circle around the object, attempting to maintain an equal distance to the center point of the object you are capturing.

Create a New Project

For this step, we’ll use a combination of the two, to make sure we get detail from the edges of the object in this scene. For 123D Catch, you should use no more than 70 images, due to limitations of the software.

Go to http://www.123dapp.com/catch and select your platform of choice to get started using the software. For this tutorial, we’ll use the PC version.
Once you have it installed, run the application.
Click Create A New Capture.
You will be asked to sign in to Autodesk’s system, use whichever authentication method you prefer, and click Sign In.
The file browser will open, allowing you to select the folder where your images are stored

Use the Shift key to select all the photos you have for processing.

Click Open.

Click the tab to Organize Photos. This will allow you to confirm your photos are all loaded.

Click Create Project.
Fill in the information on the form, and click Wait.

Your photos will now be uploaded to the 123D Catch servers for processing. Depending on the size of your photos and complexity of your scene, this can take a few minutes to hours.

Examine Your Results

Download the object scan from the Autodesk account and import to the Meshmixer.

The files needs to be saved as stl files after finishing the object then open the files into 123D make.

Select the box from the left there are plenty of tools that can fix the model that you create, to fix it looks more like the reality object.

Delete all the extra part that doesn't exist in your object .

Then fill up the hole that appears on your 3D model.

After fixing the object, you have to check every edge and the platform surface which means there will be no more extra parts and no more holes on it.

Any gaps or extra parts will failure to your next step by creating the laser cut modeling.

In this case, you can see that the final result turned out to be fairly accurate. There are, however, several holes in the mesh, due to lack of sufficient coverage of those areas.   Save the files in stl. To make sure the files will works.
